For the second consecutive year, the second-year Agricultural Engineering students at JCET have proven that their expertise isn't limited to textbooks. Swapping pens for ploughs, 29 students successfully harvested a staggering 2,200 kg of paddy from the Kundil fields in Mangalam panchayata massive leap from the 2 quintals produced during their debut season last year.
This hands-on initiative, part of the Crop Husbandry Lab, saw the students manage the entire agricultural lifecycle. Starting in September 2025, the team prepared the two-acre plot, utilized mechanical transplanters, and maintained the crop using strictly organic methods. The project offers a unique "lab-to-land" experience where the "child engineers" operate everything from planting machinery to harvesters.
The success of the harvest is more than just a grade; its a community effort. With land provided by the Nehru Group and guidance from HOD Dr. E.K. Kurian and his faculty team of Assistant Professors N.C. Smegha, K.P. Jishna and Lab Assistant Kiran K., the students have earned the admiration of local farmers who frequent the fields to watch the next generation at work."
